Maryland Laser, Skin and Vein Institute was founded by national leaders in cosmetic dermatology and dermatologic surgery. Drs. Margaret and Robert Weiss began practicing dermatology in 1982. Partner Karen Beasley, M.D. joined the practice in 2000. Our practice also includes a team of licensed nurse practitioners and physician assistants to assist in providing the highest quality care. We specialize in anti-aging cosmetic procedures including BOTOX® Cosmetic, Thermage, Liposuction, laser resurfacing, skin tightening, microdermabrasion, and filler injection. Robert Weiss, M.D., F.A.A.D., F.A.C.Ph
Dr. Robert A. Weiss is currently an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He served as President of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) from 2008 - 2009. He is currently very active in teaching for ASDS, AAD and ASLMS. He presently serves on the Board of Directors of ASLMS (American Society of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine). His education included residency in dermatology at the Johns Hopkins University after graduating from Columbia University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (1978). Additional fellowship training at the National Institutes of Health in dermatologic research followed. Board-certified, he has been a featured speaker for the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery for over 20 years, as well as speaking to many other national and international dermatology and cosmetic organizations and societies. He has received numerous international awards of recognition. A prolific author of over 100 articles and a dozen textbooks including "Vein Diagnosis & Treatment: A Comprehensive Approach," published by McGraw-Hill and "Cosmetic Dermatology, " Dr. Weiss is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins. He has helped to prepare examination questions for the American Board of Dermatology. He served as Treasurer of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and President of the American College of Phlebology. He is presently a Board member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He has served on the Board of Directors of the International Society for Dermatologic Surgery. He has published extensively on many subjects, especially varicose vein treatment, sclerotherapy, lasers, and cosmetic dermatology surgery. His expertise on these topics has led to his appearances on many TV shows such as "20/20" and "The Today Show."Since 1993, Dr. Weiss has served as Associate or Contributing Editor for the Journal Dermatologic Surgery. He also serves on the Editorial Board for Lasers in Surgery and Medicine. Dr. Weiss is the author of over 150 publications,
including dozens of textbook chapters and four textbooks. He has been an invited speaker for hundreds of worldwide scientific presentations. Dr. Weiss’ present research consists of evaluation of various lasers and light sources for the treatment of photoaging,vascular lesions and pigmented lesions as well as fillers and botulinum toxins. He has helped to develop new methods of non-invasive varicose vein treatments, lasers for blood vessels and initiated new methods of reversing photoaging by lasers and light sources. One of his latest projects is developing better methods for laser lipolysis and body contouring.
Margaret Weiss, M.D., F.A.A.D.
Karen Beasley, M.D., F.A.A.D.
Dr. Karen L. Beasley, a native of the State of Maryland, completed her bachelor’s degree and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. After internship in internal medicine at Penn State, she completed three years of specialized dermatology training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Beasley is certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and the American College of Phlebology. She lectures both locally and nationally on aesthetic dermatology issues. Dr. Beasley has trained extensively in cosmetic treatments and laser surgery, including skin rejuvenation techniques, treatment with Botox® Cosmetic, Restylane®, Juvederm®, and other filling agents, as well as, the treatment of spider veins and varicose veins. Her practice includes comprehensive skin care evaluations and skin cancer screenings, intense pulsed light therapy, over 30 different lasers, sclerotherapy, endovenous laser closure and ambulatory phlebectomy of varicose veins, and chemical peel treatments. Dr. Beasley’s academic affiliation is with the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology. She founded the Resident Cosmetic Dermatology clinic where she instructs the residents on the latest techniques of aesthetic dermatology. She also instructs other physicians how to administer Botox® Cosmetic safely and effectively as a member of the National Botox® Education Faculty. In addition to teaching, she is also active in research and clinical trials within the practice.
Yelena Frankel, M.D., F.A.A.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Frankel has published numerous articles in peer reviewed dermatology journals and has won national Investigator Awards from the American Academy of Dermatology and the Wound Healing Society. Her expertise in helping the skin recover from sun damage, stress, and injury has earned Dr. Frankel appearances on local and national television. During residency, she also received the Preceptorship Award from the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Frankel’s focus is on her patients. She strives to provide the best possible care for all their dermatologic needs. Dr. Frankel’s practice includes general dermatology, skin rejuvenation, laser surgery, laser scar correction, Botox® treatments, filler injections, sclerotherapy, and dermatologic surgery.
Board Certified by the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Frankel is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Women's Dermatologic Society.
