The Active FX™ with Lumenis'Ultrapulse Encore is the latest advance in minimal downtime fractional CO2 skin resurfacing for wrinkles, sundamage,scars, and pigmentation. The face, neck, chest, arms and hands can safely be treated. Dividing the CO2 beam into small "fractional" spots allows for faster, minimally uncomfortable treatment with usually great results. During the procedure, the high-energy beam of laser light penetrates the skin in "fractional" columns, causing the upper layer to peel off and heating the dermis to stimulate new collagen. "Bridges" of untouched skin promote healing quickly. The effects are usually dramatic, with skin tightening, reduction of wrinkles and fine lines, improved skin tone and texture, and plumping of the skin with new collagen over time. An anesthetic cream is used before the one-time treatment, and most patients say they feel warmth similar to sunburn. Treating the face takes less than 30 minutes. Patients can drive themselves home. A gentle washing and moisturizing routine is followed. Five days is usually all it takes for the redness and roughness from the treatment to fade. Sunsensitivity may last 2-3 weeks. Results may last for years.
