Chemical Peels

chemical peel diagram Chemical peels use the application of various agents (glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and occasionally trichloracetic acid) to peel off the outer layers of the skin to reveal fresher, smoother skin. For those of us who can't afford any downtime, the "lunchtime" glycolic acid peel is preferable. Our staff is trained to administer these twenty minute peels which leave your skin glowing and refreshed. A series of six treatments is recommended for maximum improvement. If greater improvement is desired, a series of "beta-lift" peels can be done. There may be 2-3 days of redness after a beta-peel. Our board-certified dermatologists and staff are well trained to recommend to you what will work best for your skin, given your degree of sundamage, and schedule. The skin stays sun-sensitive for a week or so after these mild peels. A non-chemical alternative is the SilkPeel®, an improved form of microdermabrasion. An even more effective yet gentle treatment is Photorejuvenation, which gives greater collagen regeneration and fading of unwanted blood vessels, blotchy pigmentation and red spots. With all of these treatments, ongoing protection from the sun and use of at-home treatment is important.
